I’m La Flaka, a first-generation Latina, career coach, and unapologetic advocate for ambitious women who are ready to take up space. From moving to the U.S. at just 5 years old to earning my Bachelor’s degree in Business and MBA, my journey has been all about breaking barriers and rewriting what success looks like for us.
Through my blog, I share real stories, practical advice, and unfiltered insights to help you build confidence, grow your career, and lead with purpose without losing who you are in the process.

Oklahoma was an interesting place to visit last weekend, the weather was a bit more bipolar than usual Texas climate. I started coughing today and am not surprised as I did not prepare for the cold time there. It was a planned trip to bond and learn with my sorority sisters. The weekend was filled with so many emotions, lessons, and memories to carry on forever. And I am proud to share that I beat my anxiety the entire time, those around me could barely distinguish when I was freaking out! Also confirmed that I am not photogenic whatsoever, plus I am definitely getting way older. Yes, of course we went dancing and I could not keep up with the younger crowd around me. A few ladies complimented my necklace, confusing my baby Othniel’s name with the word Alumnae…. I expressed my miscarriage grief to a good number of people there. I am glad to be surrounded by people who were kind enough to say sorry and give me a hug! There was not any bad or even sad comment made towards my baby loss!
It definitely helped to travel with another sister who experienced something similar and understood the hardship of facing the world after losing a pregnancy. Friday night was filled with greetings and food, plus some laughs and dancing. Saturday was definitely B&B, business and a blast! I was able to feel helpful again while presenting a Career Advice workshop to our active, college student sisters. We reviewed a few important topics in the career search field, such as finding one’s self leadership style, determining the best industry to focus in, resume types with tips to consider, cover letter feedback, interview tools, communication skills importance, salary negotiation, and networking importance!
The blast was our conference gala event, awards given to honor sister efforts, and dancing the night away! Sunday was the last day, pictures, service, and goodbyes were part of the entire day. Coming back home was nice and getting back to enjoying time with family and work too!
